Additional Posts in Career Advice for Students
Hey there!
I am a Masters Student majoring in Machine Learning. I am in my first semester and I am kind leaning to explore Data Science as well. Could any Professional Data Scientists help me out on getting started? What skills do I focus on? What kind of projects should I have on my portfolio?
I have tried looking this info out in the internet but its all overwhelming. Hoping to get some honest guidance here!

Pick the people and the work you are interested in, tax and audit are different, the point of an internship is to try things out. the myth of B4 get more exit opps over GT isn’t reality and shouldnt be a factor at this stage of your career. This is not local firm verse Large firm. In my experience audit gives you broader exit opps than tax. Been at GT over 17 years, and can speak to the culture, and generally clients just find us easier to do business with in the upper middle market.
I’m at Grant but honestly think each has different perks. Agree with the partner above on the people and the work. Who did you connect better with during the recruiting process? And audit versus tax are very different - I didn’t switch from audit to tax but I did switch from tax compliance a speciality tax group and made a world of a difference for me because I enjoy the work so much more.
Deloitte will open many doors for you, plenty of learning opportunities
Personally, WLB is super important to me and I know I would thrive better in a company with a better culture.
Deloitte all the way imo. Bigger name brand to start out with helps.
