Very hard and will struggle. Jokes apart, you will be fine with a more than a decent lifestyle
Agree with MD1. Suggest residing in NJ side for lower taxes & housing costs.
I lived in CT for awhile and commuted between clients in CT (Stamford, New Haven, and Hartford) and Manhattan. Get used to the commuting times and the various ways in and out of the city. It gets crazy if there’s a weather event or other big event which NYC has a lot of.
If that rumored high speed ferry ever gets off the ground, that would be an interesting way to commute to lower Manhattan from Bridgeport/Stamford.
If you really mean "family of 2" as opposed to 2 kids-- $700k is plenty to live very well in manhattan for two adults. Why not live it up? Most go to NJ or CT for space and schools.
Schools are the killer in the city…
