Can only speak from a US perspective, but I have quite a few bright, qualified friends that have been let go due to market conditions. Many of these friends are still struggling to find a job, 4-6 months since being let go. In this political climate I would not voluntarily leave a well paid, comfy job. But Australia may be a whole different ballgame so can’t comment on that!
I see Downer Group is Australia/New Zealand based. Is that where you are? This could be a wildly different answer compared to a US context.
Ah, sorry - my advice would be pretty bad then. Too tainted by US market conditions and any other advice would be pretty generic.
Good luck with whatever path you end up choosing, OP!
If you believe in yourself take the 200k job.
Do for a year and switch. If you can’t switch immediately and take 2-3 months then also you are better off.
Assuming current job there is no immediate growth side.
No wage growth in sight in current job, but secure.

If the new role is much more work (i.e. 2x as much), then your effective hourly wage might not increase by much.
Just a thought if you value WLB — you’d also be factoring in the opportunity cost of putting in the extra hours at work.
Interested to learn more about consulting life in Australia, but I think this decision depends on where you are in your personal life.
If you have young children, a new marriage, a puppy you want to spend a lot of time with, may be prudent to stay at your current role.
Based on where you are in life, if you can afford some risk, or need that shot in the arm of cash, take the contract.
