The two up and down the road from Lagavulin on that magical island of Islay: Ardbeg and Laphroaig

You started off with Lagavulin? My man! That's one of my favorites but I wouldn't ever recommend that to anyone who is just getting into Scotch.
There are 5 Scotch whisky regions: Highland, Lowland, Islay, Speyside, and Campbeltown.
Try different price points of the above 5 regions. Not all are for everyone - region and price.
Then there's: single malt, blended malt, single grain, blended grain, and blended.

I actually hated it the first 2-3 times I tried it. By the 4th or 5th try I realized I actually really enjoy the peaty flavor haha. Thanks for the education!!

I’d recommend some sort of tasting kit where you can get several different whiskies from different areas of Scotland. It’s a great way to understand the nuances (sometimes subtle, sometimes not) from one style or area to the next. At this point, you just need to try what’s out there.
Some recommendations: Balblair, Old Puleney, Balvenie, BenRiach, Dalmore, Glenfiddich, Macallan, Arran.
So much out there.
Arran is the good shiz
LAPHROAIG
Balvenie Carribean Cask

I do love this one
I personally like Laphroaig if you enjoy Lagavulin. The Quarter Cask is great.
What KPMG2 said ... My favorite!

If you like Lagavulin try the Port Charlotte
I try and stay away from brands and focus on flavor. Grape scotch is actually quite nice and closer to what real Scottish people drink
😬
Oban, Balvenie are the two I always keep stocked.
Ardbeg 10 right here, Lag for special occasions
Glenfidditch

The 15 is excellent. Huge step up from the 12

Do a bit of a taster to understand the regional varieties and then find distillers/bottles from there
Oban, dalmore, amrit fusion
Dalmore is the whisky that got me into whiskey

Talisker is a personal favorite of mine… haven’t found another whiskey like it.
My go to scotches at price ranges:
<$50 - Famous Grouse Smoky Black
Monkey Shoulder
$50-100 - Tallisker 10 year
Caol Ila 12 year
Lagavulin 11
Balvenie 12
>$100 - Lagavulin 16
(Haven't tried enough in this price band)
Oban.

In scotch - quantity actually translates into quality .
