Live in DTW but am AA EP expiring tomorrow. My company has a delta fast track 16 one ways for platinum for 12 months. Now they say a round trip counts as two one ways, so would doing extra segments count as additional one ways? Trying to think it I can connect in ATL and earn faster

Flying domestic with United from DTW…is it really necessary to arrive 2 hrs early? Have never flown close to Xmas so not sure if it’ll be super crowded in the morning or similar to when we did our weekly business travel pre-pandemic. TIA 🙏
