AI. That’s it. They have AI do it so they don’t have to. It’s likely that HR (at least the ones that evaluate resumes) saw AI as an augmentation instead of a replacement, so they started using it in order to make their job easier. As benign as that seemed for them, they didn’t realize that, because of that compromise in employing AI to do the job they were hired to do, their jobs became more and more obsolete. In the time since, the people who made that decision have either moved on to different roles inside that company or moved on to other companies all together. In either case, the role(s) they previously occupied were never backfilled.
Fast-forward to today…
They now have AI doing all evaluation duties on all resumes, by way of key word or statement parameters made by their HR department. It’s very likely the HR department doesn’t even know you applied for the position. This is the world we live in today.
The short answer is, they do it to save time and money, and in no way because they care at all about the applicants’ experiences.
Before I started applying to jobs, I had a resume review of my resume to eliminate A! roadblocks. It was the best thing I ever did. I was offered four good jobs, and I'm in my 70s! Get an AI review - you'll be glad you did.
I've been thinking the same thing for at least 8 years now... it's such an impersonal, cold, and nearly inhumane way of sorting through applications for 'the genuine article'!! The AI and/or algorithms they use seem to filter out 'EVERYONE'. It seems like a miracle if your resume and application are even seen by a human - let alone if you get a call for an interview!! I can see filtering out absolute 'JUNK', but there should still be a person at least reviewing some!!! Do they really think that AI or some algorithm is completely infallible and is doing real applicants any sort of service at all?!?! If ANY company answers that with an emphatic "YES!", they are wrong and need to tweak their process!! And even if they don't say yes, their company's process for sorting through applications still probably needs some attention.
They’re lazy, simple as that. I’m sorry that happened to you, that’s so ridiculous.
