Maybe the interviewers dont have the real time availability. And they dont want to waste time on attending an initial interview when you cant even present urself well on a video.
I'm sure it's all done for the sake of efficiency. That doesn't make me hate them any less. I had my first one 5 months ago and was so uncomfortable throughout. It made me actually look forward to coming on site for an in person interview with a different company, which says a lot about how offputting the experience was.
I bombed one in March. It’s extremely unnatural. They do it so that they can go through potential applicants without having a lengthy interview for each one of them. It’s quicker. But I think that it doesn’t work well. They only end up finding out who is good in front of a camera and who isn’t.
I've heard it's mostly to save time, but I don't really apprehend how that can be the case. I assume someone has to review them anyway. Perhaps they use some kind of transcription tool, and the texts are then reviewed by AI or human assessors. The whole process seemed weird and cumbersome for everyone involved.
I’ve done a couple and also hated them. I think companies see them as a way to cut down on recruiter time. It’s definitely not better for building a connection, but they seem to value efficiency over the human element.
I have been told they save time when there are a lot of applicants. They use them a lot in school administration jobs too.
