I used to feel that way, but then I actually won an award like that and had to go to one of those things and it's not all it's cracked up to be. You're mostly just in meetings and awkwardly small talking with strangers you'll never see again and it feels very fake.
Pro
You made a right point. Going on vacation with strange people will be no fun at all and would seem very boring at a time too. I guess it is a good point to remind myself that I am not losing on anything. 😀
It's hard knowing that I work either equally as hard or harder than them with great results, it's just that my company doesn't offer this kind of reward...
Pro
Oh that is bad. There should be rewards for employees. I guess it is encouraging for them.
I certainly know what it is like to be jealous of my coworkers achievements. But I’ve never heard of a retail job that sent employees on luxurious vacations. So I can absolutely understand your jealousy. You should ask your supervisor what he thinks you can do to improve your odds of winning next year.

I mean I always try my best to give the best and there is very tight competition when it comes to choose the winners. I always lose by few points.

First of all, it takes a lot of hard work, but also more than a bit of luck to come out on top. Also, managers don't get to the top by themselves, they need a good crew behind them (who do the real hard work, but rarely get acknowledged for it)
If you're hitting your metrics and are doing better than last year, then you are doing fine. Chasing the awards is almost never worth the extra effort.
Pro
You are right. Luck definately has a role in it. Honestly, I have made my peace with it now. I am better off without these rewards.
