Do not micro manage, have trust in your paralegal (there is that initial period where you do have to look at their work quite often, but after that) trust is key.

If you're a busy desk with true legal work, don't ask them to do coffee or personal items. Make sure your instructions are clear and concise so that your paralegal knows exactly what you want.

Forgot to say, please speak with respect. If you are condescending or yell are rude it is much harder to work for that attorney.

Paralegals are part of the legal team. We aren’t admins and many of us have a bachelors degree + a paralegal certificate/degree in paralegal studies. Value your paralegals-it is a profession just like any other and we deserve the same respect we give. Cultivating these relationships makes your team stronger.

My attorney would benefit more if there was a way I could tell him that it disrupts my work and productivity to be barged in on every 30 minutes with a fire to put out. These are items that can be tasked to me via email and won’t disrupt the flow I have going on. It’s hard to shift gears when I’m super focused on one thing and then get rerouted to do something else.
I guess just giving tasks over email instead of storming in, saying we need to fix something, and then bolting out when I have more questions.

As things start to open up fully, some of my institutional clients are sending notices that we are expected to do X activity over zoom from here on out (things we used to do in person). I hope they deny all of them so my billables don’t suffer. Less travel = more desk bs I have to do to hit quota

Hi Fishes,

I was offered RSUs for the first time as part of my compensation. I think I understand the concept as such but there are a few intricacies I was looking to clarify. Could anyone let me know if my grant date is 9th nov, 2022 and vesting period is 1 year, will I get RSUs allotted at the price of stock on grant date or vest date (in this case 9th nov, 2023)? Happy to connect in DMs as well

Thank you for your time!

I'm a marketer and I'm having a hard time getting my clients to listen to me.

I have been in marketing for 10 years now. I've worked with hundreds of clients and have been able to increase their sales by over $1 million each year.

But every time I go into a meeting with a new client, they ignore everything I say. They just want to talk about their product. They don't seem interested in learning how to market it better.

I did it! I got an in-house Paralegal position after years of working and being burned out at different law firms. I was going to leave the legal field all together because I was so burned out and depressed, but I decided to give the field one more chance if I was able to go in-house. Prayerfully, this transition will be a good one.

Has anyone dealt with a lack of praise from attorneys? I'm not someone who needs to hear "good job" all the time, but we just got a huge deal closed that I worked really hard on and had a lot of overtime. And once it closed, the lead attorney praised the other attorneys, and said nothing about me or my work. I might just be overly sensitive, but it kind of stung. Thoughts?

Hi everyone. Is it typical for the attorney to take credit for the work a paralegal does? An example: I gave some ideas about deposition questions and some observations I made (I was asked about giving suggestions) regarding a witness and the attorney mentioned that he’s the one that had these great questions/observations. Zero credit or thank you for the work I did.

I am prior military and went to law school. I had a family to take care of while I was a student, hence I went as fast as possible to get to a paycheck, graduating in 2 years, and bypassing the standard summer clerkships. How could I get some experience strictly remote? I am w-2 working as an accountant in healthcare, have passed the bar and am working on my CPA license (studying starts at 3 am, then work FT). I would like to eventually hang a shingle as a tax lawyer, but need experience. TIA!
