Any other 60 yr old unemployed life long techies out there? I have to admit, being unemployed at 60 is a bit expressing. I've started a couple business that went no where. And freelance isn't as easy as I thought it would be. I welcome your comments

I am a bit younger than you by 2 years but have found that independent contracts are the best fit for me. I do not want to climb the corporate ladder so happy to support middle IT management deliver their software projects. I currently use a headhunter to find me contracts. I have my own company for tax purposes. Will all depend on your skill set

You are only 60, use your knowledge and wisdom to educate, teach or be a consultant/contractor. There are a lot of people who would cherish your mentorship

Shorten your resume as a 45 year old, dye your hair and look youthful

You got this! I’m 22, and really look up to having older colleagues and hearing their stories. You’ve probably seen more tech come and go in your lifetime and provide immense value to society as a keeper of our past- don’t give up! And to understand said evolution is also priceless, highlight that on your interviews.

Which companies have best WLB, least stressed DS/DA roles? I’ve been suffering from some immunology issues and stress from work would worsen it, therefore I want to move to a company/role with good benefit (esp. healthcare) and great WLB (little chance of PIP, etc). Doesn’t have to be high-paying, as long as it can support my life (single) and long-term medical cost. Thanks in advance.

Went for a pre-employment drug test yesterday. They never asked me if I was on any medications. I had to ask them and was told "oh yeah, just put any you may think make a difference in this text box." I put Xanax, Flexeril, and gabapentin. All of which are prescribed and used as directed. Now I'm terrified that I should have put ALL my meds, to including my psych meds. I've been sober over 12 years and never touched drugs (just booze) but I'm having a full blown panic attack.

I just wanted to reach out and let you all know I understand how tired and beat down we all feel at this point in the year. I’m feeling it too. I also know exactly how students can try us. What I’m working on every day though is to see my kids as God does… not the kids that know how to push buttons and drive me crazy, but as the beautiful lives they are, all deserving of the best we can give them every day. I know it’s not easy, but that’s what I’m working on.

Anyone know of an alternative to StackOverflow for asking tech questions? The community is super toxic and I'm looking for a place I can casually ask questions that might seem dumb without being hrangued for not providing an essay proof of the research I've already done. Or some sort of buddy system where I can ping a person of relevant experience those questions. It's better to poke someone's brain for a minute than to spin in circles reading docs/dead end articles sometimes.

Current student looking for advice. I interned at RBC Wealth Management last summer and currently have 2 offers for summer 2023 that require a decision next week: 1 for BASF (chemical manufacturing) and 1 for Peraton (defense technology); I am also waiting to hear back from SMBC (S&T), Point72, Lord Abbett, Boeing, and Shell. I hope to break into banking next summer, and I’m interested in the Natural Resources, Industrials, and Real Estate industry groups. Any advice on what to do? Thanks!

Quick question.
I was a contractor for a big company and they just let me know that my last day is December 30th. I got this position thanks to a recruiting company that has been great and gives me benefits.
Should I:
- Continue working with the recruiting company, hoping that they will find another position for me? (as they told me they will, and when they applied me I started working with my current company within 2 weeks)
- Work with the recruiter + apply for jobs on my own?
