I didn't negotiate for my first position as I was just happy to be getting in the door. Since then I've always tried to negotiate for a little more, with mixed results. In your case, if you wanted stability and you got what you wanted, there's no reason for regret. You'll always see listings purporting to pay more, but those numbers may not be very credible anyway.
I negotiated my last offer, but not all that aggressively because I really just wanted out of my old company. Knowing I might have left money on the table doesn't bother me all that much, and it shouldn't bother you either. For one thing, those ranges are rarely accurate and you've got to be a unicorn candidate to get the top of what's posted. More importantly, jobs are incredibly hard to come by right now. I wouldn't risk having an offer pulled in this market trying to milk the opportunity for every last dollar. It's just not the time for it.
