I have a conspiracy about my companies decision-making: My CEO is purposefully cutting benefits, raises, culture, events, etc. and saving on staffing costs by letting people who don’t like the changes leave by free will, never having to lay anyone off & pay severance, all while not hiring to replace - going as far as a hiring freeze which removes employee referral bonus - yet opening 3 new office locations, minimally staffed, and a new HQ in the last few years. Workload remains the same…

It's quite common, even for employers that *are* performing layoffs, to cut fewer people than their target reduction and then let attrition cover the gap. The problem is that the people you lose in that scenario are the ones with the skills and mobility to change jobs on short notice, which leaves you with a less talented and capable workforce overall. It's a recipe for mediocrity and in my opinion it makes it that much harder for a struggling company to get out of the hole it's in, but at the end of the day MBAs are gonna MBA.

Interesting insight Brent! I definitely feel this, we’ve lost some talent in individuals because of it and I’ve been on the job hunt myself for quite some time, my hunt is a little different as I’m looking to change into a different part of the industry. But none the less, hard to see my company in a good light after all this, which makes it all the harder to work passionately here 😕

We’ve lost about 30 people in four years which equates to at least a fourth of our company.

I think we’ve had an equilibrium where the people who have stayed are willing to work in this toxic new environment, and the people who weren’t left. He basically weeded out those he felt who were weak, to save money in order to grow the brand.

Worried because of my salary at my current company I am pricing myself out of opportunities to move into a rep agency that could eventually give me the opportunity to buy into it. I’m currently almost topping out on my salary at current company with no opportunity to progress. Can make good money for a while here, but new challenge is interesting to me. Struggling accepting I may have to cut my salary 10k-20k in order to do that…

Additional Posts in Architecture Bowl

I’m 27 & going to go to back to college for my bachelors. I have worked in the legal field for about 8 years & I’m burnt out. After a lot of research an thought I am leaning towards either architecture or interior design. I wanted to ask some advice from anyone working as an architect or interior designer. How do you feel about the field? What are the stress levels like? Do you enjoy it? Are you working at firm or are you working independently? Any info helps! Thanks 😊

I’m curious to know if anyone has experience working part-time in architecture? I have been working for large international firms in NYC for the past 10 years. So I work all day every day. My evenings and often the weekends are all absorbed by work duties. Working part-time would allow me to find a better balance, and carve out space for side gigs and eventually start my own firm. Any recommendations?

As far as my capabilities are concerned, I hv personally loved teaching and managing projects cz I am able to connect with my team/students and get the job done. So it'll be great if someone would want to give me a chance for who I am personally and not just on paper
