I have a coworker who isn't rude per se - they engage and are cordial, but they've never made the extra effort to seem like they enjoy being around the rest of the team. It honestly comes off as a little abrasive/passive aggressive. I don't want to force anyone to be friendly at work but in this case would you say something to them? Or is that just their personality and we should leave it be?

If they engage with colleagues and they're cordial that sounds fine to me. My assumption is that they understand the people in the workplace are not friends and family and there's no need to overextend themselves. To be honest, I wish more people at work were like that. There are people I like working with just fine, but I don't need to know the details of their lives.

I suppose that's fair. I'm trying to be patient but sometimes its hard

I would let it go. You never know if they could be neurotypical or just incredibly introverted. Some people struggle with social situations and you don't want to push people past their comfort point, just to get them to fake friendliness.

They could be neurotypical... good point. There just seems to be a shortage of emotional intelligence on their end but its not the end of the world.

For me, I'd let them be because from a workplace perspective, not everyone expresses warmth in the same way, and some people simply prefer to keep interactions professional rather than social. If their behavior isn’t disruptive to collaboration or performance, it’s usually best to respect their style and leave it be.

Definitely a fair assessment. Thanks for the input!

Its true that you can see on some faces more than others

I would not encourage interaction if they dont want to

Do Leidos, SAIC, and other mostly-fed consulting businesses pay bonuses to all levels? If so, what does a typical bonus target look like? Booz Allen does not pay bonuses until you get to the Senior Associate level (1 step below Director) and I think that impacts employee performance and work ethic pretty dramatically. I’m wondering if not paying bonuses is common to federal contracting because of how the contracts or priced, or if this is something unique to Booz Allen.
