I hired my first employee to help me in my business. It’s only been a few weeks. So far, he has asked me to process his pay early. Which I accommodated. Friday, he told me an hour after his shift was supposed to start that he’s sick. I have a feeling he’s not sick. But, I told him no problem just come back Monday when you’re feeling better. Today, I can tell it’s 3 hours into his shift and he hasn’t been working. He’s making up other non existent tasks. How many more chances should I give him?

Take him aside and ask him why he’s not working on the tasks he’s supposed to. Maybe he’s still not feeling good, maybe he doesn’t realize they’re higher priority.

I’d at least sit him down to discuss behavior and expectations before cutting him loose.
