Hello,

Can someone give me an overview of what Internal Audit does? Received an offer for IA and currently work in External Audit. Want to know the differences between the two.

Internal audit is the test of controls that are created by the management of the entity you are auditing. As the last line of defense in the organization, it’s our duty to ensure that internal controls are designed adequately and are operating effectively. It’s a job that requires critical thinking and understanding the operating procedures set forth by the company. I was an external auditor for 1.5 years and transitioned into internal audit. I’ve been here for almost 1.5 years and the WLB is amazing compared to public. Also, I’m getting paid more, my bosses are great, and there’s a strong work culture amongst my team members. Exit opportunities include compliance, risk management, quality assurance, etc. Feel free to reach out if you have any questions.

I worked in private company IA. WLB is amazing, my company has locations all over the world so the travel was a huge plus for me. Since it was private we didn't have to worry about SOX and could look at more operational aspects of the company and make recommendations to improve efficiencies, cash flow, etc. It was truly a position in which I could make a difference in a company which is something I value in a role.

10/10 recommend

Hey all, I’ve recently joined EY consulting from another Big 4 and have noticed there’s no discipline (at least in my team) around codes and charging time. People either charge a standard 7 hrs or some will charge time spent on internal activities to their client code.

I was told that “the last person to charge their actual hours worked was promptly booted off the project”.
Just wondering:
1) Is this a general cultural point accross all Consulting teams? Will challengin this get me in trouble?

Out of curiosity. How would a company view a potential candidate who has a period of unemployment to study for the CPA. I am considering to start studying for the exam but I know I would need to leave my employer in order to give 110%. I am contemplating the idea of at least passing one part while employed. Then leaving my employer to study FAR. I am considering to leave my current employer anyways, so it’s more of how my future employer would view that lapse.
