Hey all, I’ve recently joined EY consulting from another Big 4 and have noticed there’s no discipline (at least in my team) around codes and charging time. People either charge a standard 7 hrs or some will charge time spent on internal activities to their client code.

I was told that “the last person to charge their actual hours worked was promptly booted off the project”.
Just wondering:
1) Is this a general cultural point accross all Consulting teams? Will challengin this get me in trouble?

I broke up with my EX mainly because the relationship with my child and her was not the best, it sucks but I have to look out for my child, So far I am able to do the things I can do now. It is not the I am not Hoeing around but the simply fact that I can hang out with friends and go watch my son play baseball is a great feeling now. The mid-level associate who directly supervises me isn’t being responsive. I am worried about missing a deadline. Should I keep pinging him? Figure it out on my own? Reach out to someone above him?

How do firms calculate how much parental leave to provide, either paid or unpaid. Or do they just pick a number, like “yeah they can get to know their kid in a few weeks and I couldn’t possibly have that attorney out for 12 weeks?” I’m at a small firm, no FMLA or state requirement. We get four weeks paid and four weeks unpaid. Would like to push for more but not sure how to argue costs side of it.

Out of curiosity. How would a company view a potential candidate who has a period of unemployment to study for the CPA. I am considering to start studying for the exam but I know I would need to leave my employer in order to give 110%. I am contemplating the idea of at least passing one part while employed. Then leaving my employer to study FAR. I am considering to leave my current employer anyways, so it’s more of how my future employer would view that lapse.
