I just met another waiter who works at a steakhouse and told me she makes a $1000 a night sometimes. And makes close to 7K a month. We met on a train, so I couldn't talk for too long. I was shook. That's even better than what some tech guys and supposedly high-income jobs make. How do you get to this level? What does it truly take to be hired by such restaurants?

The cost of living there is probably through the roof. I would take a grain of salt with that. I’ve had some good nights with tips, but it is never consistent.

Also you got to remember these servers also have to tip out kitchen, Service support, back to house, if there is tip pool they have to tip out that.

Takes connections to get into positions like this. If they make money like that, it’s pretty lucrative and ppl tend to hold onto those positions. I’d say try to get into a place where you know wealthy ppl frequent.

I’m currently in a lease admin type role, in commercial real estate. I make a base salary of $50.5K with about $9k in bonuses. I’ve continuously received 7-10% raises over the last 3 years. I anticipate getting a promotion this year and would like to get closer to $60k for my base salary. I’m the only person in my role at the company and have been a key person in developing our team as we look to expand. Is this unreasonable? Is there a normal increase given with promotions?
