A slim (or skinny) fit suit from H&M, R&W, winners, or another department store will look tailored and will run you $100-200 max. I still use it for important meetings and have received the occasional compliment.
If you're on the bigger side, a regular fit could work, and you can tailor it for a little extra. Id tailor the pants on the off the rack suit if the length is wrong too.
Fit > quality. If it compliments your shape, it will work and look much better than a higher tier untailored suit, and no one will know or question you.
If you dont truly need a suit, consider mixing and matching a few nice blazers from those same stores with different colour pants to have several outfit permutations.
Congrats on the new gig! I found my first work suit at Macy’s during one of their big sales. You can usually grab something decent there for under $200, especially if you catch a holiday promo. Men's Wearhouse is another place with suits that are affordable and well-made.

As long as the suit fits you, it’s going to look professional, so id suggest getting it tailored. When I first graduated, I got a suit from Belk that wasn’t expensive at all (I forget how much it cost but I still wear it from time) but as poor as I was I know it couldn’t have costed much more than $100.
Bad looking shoes can ruin the suit so be sure to find a pair that matches nicely; also cheap at Belk
