I figured that with technology, the process of looking for jobs would get easier, but with AI interviews and tests, I find the process colder and more demoralizing. I've spent countless hours recording one-way video responses into my laptop, talking to an empty screen, and receiving no feedback whatsoever. I have no idea if I’m being judged on content, attitude, lighting, or if I’m blinking too much. I miss the days of real conversations, where you could build some sort of rapport and show your personality. How do you stay motivated and human in this process, where it feels like you're being filtered like an algorithm?

So confused. You’re having automated interviews? This is a thing? I’ve had dozens of interviews (in house and big law) and they were all with real people. Nuts if this is really a thing.

I just got a job within the last 6 months. None of my interviews were conducted with ai. Most were in person after I passed the initial phone screen.

What roles are you applying to?

For associates who have lateraled in the last 6 months or so, what made you decide to move? Has your situation improved since moving? I’m a transactional mid-level & I’ve interviewed with some great firms recently. I’m struggling to get excited though…it just seems like no matter where I go I’ll be overworked & under appreciated. Hoping there are some positive stories out there to give me hope. Haha

I’ve practiced litigation in DC for about 5+ years at a larger plaintiffs’ firm, and am considering a switch to a defense firm. Is there any insight to how many billable hours this would require, and how much time that would actually be? For reference, the firm has a 1900 billable hour requirement and the partner said I would have “no problem” fulfilling that based on the work they have.

I recently had a specialist partner send me a fairly nasty email after I (a transactional first year) was told to ask them to review something ASAP that had clearly been on my partner’s radar for over a week. Why am I taking the (honestly justified) blame for this? Surely it should be obvious that I’m just the messenger here.

It is in appropriate to ask what the compensation for a position is after a first interview if they want you to go on three more and the interviewers on my first told me that was above their pay grade to tell me?????

Seems kind of ridiculous for a business to want to waste so much time to find out after a handful of interviews that the pay isnt aligned with my needs ......

I can see in biglaw not bringing up knowing damn well if you get an offer itll likely be high, but this is a midsize
