Bowl Leader
I’m in my 50’s. Although I feel blessed to be at the position I am in, the road wasn’t easy. I sometimes think about the chances I didn’t take. I’m not saying what you should do. Just don’t live with regrets that will haunt you.
I'd need to know a lot more about the plan to know if this is foolish or planned out. Have you confirmed your visa status and verified you can look for jobs while being abroad?
What's your plan for money and how long can you last without a job? How much security do you have if this plan imploded and you have to move back home..could you afford to do so? There's a lot that goes into an international move, from personal experience it was at least $15k moving abroad and spent close to $30k settling back in the US when we came back... this doesn't include the tickets and moving costs, that was just life acclimation and housing.
Do it. You're never going to be this young again. If you don't have kids or a wife or anything like that tying you down, get out there and live your life. You can always make up lost income. You can't make up lost time.
I’m less worried about lost income. I’m worried, if the economy is so bad, what if I take too long to find job, or don’t find one & end up taking a demotion and it affects my long term career growth? Am I thinking too much?
I can work there and have funds saved, so no problem on moving there without a job for a year, and also if I need to move back.
I’ve actually considered that but I’m not sure how to get started. How did you find contract/freelance work?
Ask yourself why you want to move abroad, and do your research on how easy it is to secure work (including visa requirements and local unemployment rates). Moving to a new country can be very lonely especially if you're not working, and not easy or cheap.
