I was let go a few weeks ago during a major company restructuring, and I’m just now starting to look for my next job. I know layoffs are beyond my control, but I still can't help but think that companies will look at my situation and assume it was a performance issue rather than just bad luck. Does a layoff still hurt your prospects, or am I stressing myself out for no reason?

Layoffs should never hurt your opportunities. Any good manager/organization would vouch for you during an employment reference and back up your statement you were let go as a RIF and would also make sure they state you were a great employee with no performance or discipline concerns and this was simply a business decision. Good luck to you!

Just venting. College friend (same ethnicity but came to US with family as a kid) told me she might get a new job offer w a smaller firm, 50% pay bump. We currently work at comparable big firms but her pay is already higher than mine (hers include stocks, mine doesn’t). We did equally well in college & I know I’m just as smart. Can’t help but feel like my career’d have been much better if I did not need sponsorship. Smaller firms don’t sponsor so I work at a big firm but pay isn’t great 🙄

Hello .. Anyone joining UBS on 31st October in Pune location?

I’m a second year BigLaw associate that pays market. I was offered the position at a modified salary and hourly expectation due to their expected work flow needs. I’m wondering what is the best way to approach the topic of getting on the full salary/hours. Do I wait until the bonuses are given at the end of my first year? Or bring it up at mid-year review? I won’t have any problem meeting my hourly so I’m starting to think I’m being underpaid. I’ve been reading on here that not meeting

Hi everyone, I made this bowl to have an open discussion about ageism, share stories and see where we can make a change. That said, what did you expect when you joined this bowl? I’m 24 and just coming in to the industry, so the more I know the better an ally I can be.

I have an annual membership to tryexponent for FAANG and tech prep. I don’t need the membership anymore and have about 6-8 months. I can share my creds for $60. The content was extremely helpful, I made it to Amazon. Let me know if anyone’s interested

I’ve practiced litigation in DC for about 5+ years at a larger plaintiffs’ firm, and am considering a switch to a defense firm. Is there any insight to how many billable hours this would require, and how much time that would actually be? For reference, the firm has a 1900 billable hour requirement and the partner said I would have “no problem” fulfilling that based on the work they have.
