I was let go from a job six years ago after working there for a year. It was a personality conflict with a difficult boss, but I’m still worried about the background check. Should I still list the HR contact for verification, or is it better to just leave that year off my resume entirely?

I would leave it and just put the HR contact. They should only indicate whether you are eligible for rehire and your employment dates. Legally I don't think they can say anything negative.

Assuming you have something else in those 6 years, I’d just leave it off. Yes, they might reach out to verify employment dates, but I wouldn’t go out of my way with that information.

You can leave it there. Since it was 6 years ago, they might not even reach out to that employer. Leaving HR contact would be best because they will list the facts about your work there rather than listing a specific personality conflict

Next week I’m having my first lateral interview as a junior associate. I’m very nervous because the group with whom I’m interviewing works with life science/tech clients and the attorneys have strong science/tech backgrounds; and I do not.
