If quitting a job within two months because it’s truly a very bad fit and causing major disruption to my life, should I leave it on or off my resume? For context I entered the job market after a 19 month maternity gap and realized consulting is no longer sustainable for me as a new mom. If I leave it off my resume I’m worried about having a huge gap and applying to jobs as “currently unemployed” but I’m also worried about how a two month experience would look.

Position it as you’re employed in a contract role which is why it’s short term. The contract is coming to an end which is why you’re back on the job market

like

Maybe. But if we assume she just mentions that it’s a contract role if the question comes up during an interview, then nothing should be flagged during the background screening as they’re just making sure she works at the company listed on her resume. Also I’ve been a hiring manager and I’ve never looked at a background screening . I assume HR just takes care of this

A ~27mo gap (estimating, 19mo mat gap + recruiting in job market + 2 mo new role) vs. your 19mo mat gap seems like similar. You were out of the market 1.5 years then, and 2.25 years now if you don’t divulge. I think the tradeoff of leaving a new job so quickly would be more a flag, and would leave off the new job. Just my 2c though.

Idk how you have been sustainable after 19 months without a paycheck, ride it out and collect a few paychecks for at least 6 months.

Are you a parent?

Honesty - best policy.

You’re looking for a fit for you and your next employer. No one did anything wrong. You tried something and it’s not the right fit for you right now. That is easily explained z

Just got the call from a recruiter that they won’t be moving forward with my application after reviewing my take-home writing assignment. I was very proud of what I submitted, and know it was great quality and up to industry standards given I review/write this type of document quite frequently. They gave me good feedback on it, and I have it in the back of my mind that they are using applicants from consulting as free labor. Anyone else feel this way about interview take-home assignments??
