I’m getting married next week. Who here had their work phone with them in their bridal purse and during the wedding events? 🤣🥲 is it safe to say I can put it away? 🙄

Chuck it in the champagne fountain! Your wedding/honeymoon is about the only time aside from parental leave you can be 'unresponsive'

Turn it off and leave it at home. Part of having WLB is setting hard boundaries. This is a completely reasonable country so don’t set a stupid precedent for yourself.

Congrats!!

I’m getting married next month and my bosses have already told me to make it clear in my OOO that I’m out for my wedding and not looking at emails. Anyone who expects you to do anything different is deeply unwell.

like

Being clear in your OOO message is key.

My uncle is a chief heart surgeon and recently remarried. He did not have his work phone on him for his wedding day. He saves lives, we don’t so there is no reason to work on your wedding day.

Very much this.

My work phone is my personal phone, so I had it with me, and my supervisor called me a few times on my honeymoon and had me handle a client call. Looking back, that was totally not okay and I should have set better boundaries in advance and not answered if she did call. I let her push me around because I was young and eager, but that’s not healthy or sustainable. Things got so much better for me when I started setting boundaries because then there was basic respect that I demanded and was given.

I worked a bit in the morning while I was getting hair and makeup done - just sending emails on my phone and stuff. It calmed my nerves.

I put my phone away for the day as the MOH, let alone being the bride. Give yourself the day!!! Tell your teams. They should respect your time

like

Girl put that phone away, you have absolutely no obligation to answer your work phone during your wedding.

like

Put it in a drawer at noon the day of the rehearsal dinner and don’t pick it up until the evening after the wedding.

like

I gave it to my MOH so I felt like I had it nearby.

Nothing, and I mean NOTHING, is as important as your important events. I worked during a mandatory day at the racetrack, and was still laid off two weeks later.

Recently, as you probably know, Dr. Seuss's estate chose to stop printing a few of his older books that had offensive racial stereotypes. There was huge backlash from white people, including teachers here, screaming "cancel culture!"
Now we have a white guy who murdered eight Asians in custody, unharmed; while the police officer who killed an African American man for allegedly trying to pass a bad check is about to go on trial.
Full disclosure: I'm white. But I'm still enraged by all this. You?

I was in a meeting, and there was a new attendee, a fellow Asian guy.

Senior member: “Hi [new attendee’s name], where are you from?”

New attendee: “from [city and state]”

Senior member: “No, where are you reeeeaaaallllyyy from?”

**awkward silence**

New attendee: “from God”

Hey guys! Currently in WM ops at Morgan Stanley for the past 1 year dealing with alternative lending, I’m super underpaid with 3 years of experience which is very frustrating. (73k). Have been at Morgan for 1 year and looking to come over to JPM for an ideal pay bump, but would like to get into IB type roll. Any insight on what I should expect or how to go about applying? Maybe even getting referred? I have a deep knowledge of investments and always felt inclined to go down this route.

My company is in need of a update online, could use your opinions! We need to better showcase our culture (caring, supportive, fun, intelligent IT industry leaders) as well as diversity. We are predominantly white still but making strides to improve here. What’s the best way to approach? I don’t want to seem disingenuous or that we are singling out our diverse employees (asking for photos). We have a remote and on-site workforce about 350+ EEs. Non white EEs make up about 35% of the company rn.
