It would help to know more about what you like and dislike about your current role as well as your interests. There’s always hope but your career isn’t something that’s just handed to you - you’ve got to work to get where you want to be. If you don’t know what you want to do next, try to network with attorneys in other areas to get a sense of whether you’d like what they do better.
You should buy the book “The Significant Lawyer: the Pursuit of Purpose and Professionalism.” It’s like $25 on Amazon. I was given it and it helped me figure out what drives me and what values to align myself with at a firm. Written by judge Duffey jr
I work in the bankruptcy field. You can do consumer or creditor side. It’s a decent option and not as crazy as some. Bankruptcies are absolutely booming right now too!
+1 for a bankruptcy transition. The skills align and if you don’t like bankruptcy it’s an easy skip over to general litigation.
Join a small general practice firm. They will be happy to have your estate planning experience but there will be lots of opportunities to cross-train in other practice areas. I worked in several small firms before I became a prosecutor and I picked up a lot from a bunch of different areas even though I focused on criminal defense. I could’ve easily pivoted to any other area of law in those firms, who care more about making money than having specific practice areas. There aren’t usually established “practice area” silos that must be maintained so there’s a lot more flexibility.
What makes it not for you?
Can you do trust administration which requires less drafting, if that’s not your strong suit? Or trust litigation since you have trust and estates foundation.

What don't you like? That area has a lot of little niches you can get into. Personally, I'm not super into planning but it is the gateway to doing the work I actually enjoy which is taxes and more complex administrations such as fixing terribly drafted EPs that require court order interpretations or NJSAs.
