I don’t know how many years it takes, but a CD with 4 years of experience sounds absurd. Even if you’re a creative prodigy, there’s more to CD-ing than being a good creative. Management, production, timelines, mentoring, politics. Four years doesn’t seem like enough.
I’m not that young just skin care and asian genes
Where are all these young creative directors? I've been around a while now and can count the number of CDs under 30 I've run into or know of on 0 hands.
Where have you been hiding? 😜
Nope.
10 years minimum. (2 years junior, 2 years mid, 3 years senior, 3 years ACD.)
I had to be my own CD 2 years in. Was on a super small team and our CD was phoning it in so they canned him. I was not ready at all, even though we ended up making a lot of great stuff. That was 7 years ago and I’m just now at a place where I feel comfortable taking an ACD role.
It’s a no for me.
Agencies have been paying with titles instead of money for the last decade +. Pretty soon they'll be hiring people as ACDs out of school.
I think you need at least 5 years under your belt and be absolutely standout. Otherwise it’s 8 minimum from my POV.
What shop is hiring CDs with only 4 tears of experience as a creative?
It’s just a title for whoever is leading the creative work. People right out of school doing the social are “creative directors” if there’s no one else there doing it, as is the case at a lot of in house jobs.
