I don’t think the base is 220 for an L5 in SO. The total comp is probably in the mid - high 200s. I can’t speak that much for CA but in general yes it’s a lot lower, but not half
But I'm saying after conversion it's double, it's lower nominally USD/CAD AND then there is conversion
Not sure about Google but I recently made a move from Canada to US and yes my pay is about 1.75 times if I convert my US comp to CAD
Are you from Salesforce? My numbers won’t help your case. I didn’t negotiate the offer. Salesforce ES will use your current compa ratio and put it the in the geo and job role you’re moving to and get a number. You can’t negotiate it
Google stratops L5 is ~300k in nyc from internal promo.
Can you help me understand what L5 means? (Years of experience, expectations, etc) thanks

Yeah it’s always an IC role. You’re typically expected to be the source of truth for your subject matter area, you drive initiatives/work streams independently, while seeking directional guidance from 6’s/7’s, and are influential cross functionally. Those that repeatedly deliver important projects from start to finish tend to be well positioned for 6.
The pay differential is very substantial.
Try doing continental Europe vs the US. Easily 2-3x more in the US, esp when you factor in various onerous rules for stock comp in Europe ( eg taxing unrealized gains, cap gains tax in some countries = ordinary income tax, etc).
The US pays much better but we also have some supposed job "insecurities" - e.g., at will employment - and healthcare isn't paid over taxes like it is in Canada and Europe. And you generally have less of a safety net, so the onus is on you to kick butt and build your own wealth.
