Adding a HUGE one for me, to the already great ones submitted: the feeling of needs being seen, and taken care of, to make working life easier and more pleasant.
Some examples:
- the well-documented food/catering/microkitchens/baristas etc. You never have to even THINK about whether you'll be able to get something tasty and nutritious, at a time that suits you.
- every conference room has pens, papers, whiteboards etc. (sounds so silly and basic but it helps get the job done)
- a common sense expenses policy/process. Put expenses on your corporate credit card, and receipt requirements and submission process is 100X easier than at any of my previous companies
- beautiful offices - thoughtfully designed, with excellent quality furniture
- if you need something (reasonable) to do your job, just buy it and expense it. No arguing about another laptop cable
- in-house tech support (Tech stop). We basically have our own Genius Bars.
I could go on, but you get the picture.
Oh and generally speaking, very nice and smart colleagues.
My top 5:
1) On-site massage therapists with ~$30 hourly rates
2) Luxurious, underused gyms that are optimized for physical health instead of revenue potential.
3) 401(k) match up to the annual maximum
4) Ability to get almost any reasonable interview (MBB, other tech firms, the occasional PE Ops)
5) Equity-based compensation with a stable upside.
Can’t agree on #2, MTV gyms are always overcrowded and outdated.
Although this might not be what it used to be a few years back but I feel overall very people focused company. It’s hard for the size of Google to get this right consistently but most old leadership still believes in people as the strongest asset.
Still no excuse not to get it right. They expanded they company so meet the needs. Simple.
