Yes of course. I have been for 7 years. Just ask for what you want. That’s one of the great things about private practice, you just negotiate for the deal you want.

I make sure I’m not being taken advantage of by not working much more than we agreed. If I’m unavailable because I need to snag my kids at 3 or whatever, I just say I’m unavailable. I don’t volunteer for much. When I need to be somewhere in person (a few times a year), I’m there with bells on. I do good work.

I’m in a niche area of law.

I’m 85% FTE

I have definitely heard of firms that don’t provide a true up. You do need to make sure you’re not being taken advantage of

Theoretically yes. Maybe there’s even a firm policy. But practically I haven’t found any role models that have successfully gone this path. With the exception of staff attorneys but that requires a significant pay cut

Glad to hear you’ve had a different experience! I’m in a secondary market and hope it becomes more common

I'm 60% and have consistently billed that much for the past few years. I love it!

What kind of work do you do?

2/3rds time

I'm moving to about 75% at my firm of 40 attorneys. We had a rough 1800 billables goal at full time, bonus eligible at 1600. I'm moving to 1200, at 75% salary.

How did you approach this conversation? Also, what kind of work do you do? Are you in litigation?

Thoughts on leaving PA primarily due to the metrics based culture (utilization, dtc, use of X digital tool, revenue, margin, etc). I find this aspect of PA stressful and exhausting but not sure if this is something you just get used to. Currently a manager and seems like the metrics just change over time / don’t get easier.

I know that some other associates at my level are approximately 30% behind other associates in hours on a month to month basis. Yet all of these associates say they are “at capacity”, and myself and another associate still end up being assigned work instead of them. How do we handle this? For reference, all associates are around the firms minimum requirement, it’s just that a few of us are 30+% over and it is leading to burnout.

I was wondering if the review course “CPE Self Study Course” for the CFF was enough preparation to study and pass the CFF exam. The CFE review course was enough and like if you get a question wrong it explains it well so that when it comes up in a different way in the real exam you can still get it. But when I saw the outline for the CFF material and there seems to be a lot of topics so I was wondering if the review course was sufficient considering this exam is also multiple choice. Thanks!
