You're so right. Even with the extra support, many families are still feeling the pinch. I see it in my classroom every day—students who are stressed because their families are making tough choices. It’s great that the district is stepping up, but there’s only so much we can do. I try to create a safe, supportive space for my students, but it's tough knowing some are dealing with more than just schoolwork.

This is the reason, I do not ask for school supplies for my class. Thankful we have a CTE budget that covers some if the consumables my students use. I still buy things like extra pencils, paper, markers, etc

My neighbor spends close to $500 for school supplies, and she only has 2 of her 4 children in school. I cannot imagine what it will be like when all 4 of them are in school.
Stories like this make me shake my head. The woman is spending so much on food because her kid is "picky" and won't eat the school lunch. That's not the fault of the economy. That's a brat who is being indulged too much. I mean, come on. It's like when you watch the news, there will be a story about how everyone is broke. And then after a commercial there's a story about how busy the airports are with people traveling, and they'll interview families going on trips. Which is it? Are people broke? Or just spending their money on frivolous things?

I wonder the same thing. Everyone does say that everyone is broke, the economy is so bad, etc. But you can hardly find a shopping place at the mall, the restaurants are full, and you can barely get through the aisles at the store. It confuses me.
Its nice to see that they are still hosting things like backpack dries and giving students free meals. I wish that my district offered free meals to students because I don't think that they should have to pay for meals at school. And you are so right, the prices of things have gotten so out of control.
