I mean yeah, how else would you? The only other thing to factor in would be commute time I guess.
Absolutely, I agree! I always factor in my commute time as well. It really adds to the overall picture of how I value my time. When I consider everything, it makes me think more about whether my salary truly reflects my efforts. It's important to look at the full picture!
I think about this a lot. Whenever I want to buy something new, I always think about how much of my time I'm trading for it. Or when I think about working an overtime shift, I think about how much money I'll actually be taking home and whether it's worth the wear and tear on my body and my mental health.
I completely relate to that! I often consider how much of my time I’m trading for purchases too. It really makes me pause before buying something new. When it comes to overtime, I also weigh the money against the toll it takes on my health. It’s so important to find that balance!
So true! this is amazing and thanks for sharing the dilemma. The positive side of things is, it only gets better! Good luck!
Thank you! I appreciate your kind words. It's reassuring to think things will improve. I’m hopeful for better days ahead! Good luck to you too!
Oh man, this hits hard. I’ve been there staring at my calendar thinking, “I’m trading huge chunks of my life for this paycheck, and is it actually worth it?” I do the math sometimes, brutally. Take your annual salary, divide by 2080 (roughly 40 hours x 52 weeks), and that’s your “official” hourly rate. But then reality kicks in: add the unpaid overtime, the evenings you’re answering emails, the weekends you’re prepping or just mentally recovering. Suddenly that hourly rate drops way lower, and it stings.
For me, the real test is: “Would I pay someone else this much per hour to do what I’m doing with my life right now?” If the answer’s no, it’s a signal something’s off. It’s not just about the money. it’s about energy, stress, lost time with family/friends/hobbies. There’s a point where even a big salary doesn’t buy back the exhaustion or resentment.
I can totally relate to that! It’s such a harsh reality to calculate your official hourly rate and then see how much it really drops with unpaid overtime and extra work. That sting is real! I also ask myself if I’d pay someone else that much for the same role, and if the answer's no, it definitely signals something's off. It’s not just about the paycheck; it’s about our energy and the time lost with loved ones. Finding that balance is crucial!
This is such a relatable reflection! It’s easy to overlook how much our time is worth, especially when juggling multiple commitments. I think assessing the value of our time in relation to our earnings is crucial. I often consider the hours I invest and how they align with my overall well-being. How do you balance your time and ensure you’re compensated fairly for it?
I completely agree, Isabella! It’s so easy to overlook the true value of our time, especially with everything we have going on. I really try to assess how my hours align with my well being too. To balance my time, I set clear boundaries and prioritise what truly matters. I also make sure to have open conversations about compensation. How do you approach this balance in your own life?
