I know this has set me up as an asset to the agency; however, I'm now finding myself less involved with the creative and more involved with production. Questions about camera gear have popped up that I'm not qualified to answer. I've never operated a RED or ARRI camera. I'm also concerned with my career. I'm not sure I could continue to be a director in the production world, but I'm losing ground within my agency's creative team.
So my question is, has this happened to anyone else, and what did you do? Or if it hasn't happened to you, am I in a good place? What are some options for my path forward? I have about 15 years left (if that) in this business.
The real question is whether you want to be a thinker or a pair of hands.
