It's the only way I've managed to lose weight. I get that it sounds neurotic, but it's so, so helpful, and it really isn't that burdensome once you get accustomed to it. It's helped me change my eating habits and ensure I get adequate nutrients, and it's also changed the way I see food, which is freeing. I used to view foods as good/bad, healthy/unhealthy, etc. and tailor my diet accordingly, but now I just see them as numbers and don't feel guilty about eating a "bad" food as long as it fits into my daily goals.
You should track a few days worth of your normal eating! It’s eye opening to see how much more you’re (and me and most of us) likely eating than your body needs. Maybe tracking isn’t for you, but I’d still encourage you to track a few days just so you know
Tracking bring mindfulness to what you are putting in your body. It doesn’t have to be a lifetime of tracking but just a check in. I’ve used basic tools like Fitbit to log. Have also used Noom. But there are a lot of good ones out there now. Question for you why don’t you think there is merit to it?
I thought the same. I agree with comments so far that it’s eye opening to see what we are putting in our bodies. I don’t track these every day but it showed me I didn’t eat nearly enough protein. Now I prioritize that in my diet. Should I eat Ghirardelli dark or the chocolate chip protein ball? Same calorie count but different macros. One is good fuel for my body and the other gives me a sugar crash and more sugar cravings. Combine this with more activity and resistance training, and my body composition is changing. You cannot out train a bad diet.
