Is it possible to negotiate your consulting level when joining a firm post MBA? I did ~2.5 years consulting (analyst > sr analyst) then left right before I got promoted to associate. Left to a Chief of Staff role (1 yr) then did strategy & Ops at the same company (1.5 years). Getting my MBA beginning fall 2023 and thinking of doing consulting again after I graduate but I think I would be coming in at the level I was before I left which is off putting for me.

I recently found out that a new hire with no experience was brought in at a higher hourly rate than myself and several other female staff. Suggestions on steps to take with mgmt?

How risky is it to ask your client about applying for a job there? Sr client is hiring aggressively and has even hinted to my teammate that they would hire the person. However that teammate works very closely with Sr Client and I don’t (I have before but not since early summer).

Our clients company overall is also notorious for poaching our staff (at least 3 transition there every week). Has anyone ever tried it?

I applied for an educational company that provides software for tutoring, learn acceleration, RTI, and et cetera. They asked for three performance tasks to be completed. These tasks due within three days were a written support plan for staff, feedback for three tutor videos, and a 15 minute pd with facilitator notes. The catch? It was not a direct hire position. They wanted me to do free work for a newly created position that was not a direct hire position for their company.

Started looking at jobs in private accounting. I scored interviews for a Staff Accountant, Junior Accountant, and Accounting Assistant. I just finished interviewing for the Staff Accountant position which feels very much like AP/AR and Bank Recs to start, similarly to the other two positions. Does the title matter? I want to be able to grow but at the same time I want to make sure I’m moving up positions in my job search so I’m exposed to harder/higher level work.

Pre-COVID you were promised a raise to come in June to accompany the smaller raise and promotion you got in January. Now, your company is like every other company - combating layoffs and going through raise and hiring freezes; which makes the opportunity for that raise look pretty impossible. The thing is, the job you’re doing is at least two levels above what your promotion brought you to and you feel like you’re doing twice the work for half the pay. What do you do?
