Do you want a career or a job? Short term gains won’t necessarily translate to higher roles later on.
There is a false assumption here that the new place wont provide career mobility.
Pick the role that provides the best long term opportunities. If you’re chasing salary bumps you’re not focused on the correct objective IMO.
Depends on your goals. I'm sure I could have gotten a couple bigger bumps along the way for jumping around (though often times, those get adjusted for the following years anyway)....but I found myself in a good firm with a great boss and great clients. I have WLB and a ton of flexibility. 20+ years in and I feel like I'm paid fairly for what I do. I wouldn't leave the good situation I have here just for a little more money. But, while money is certainly a factor, making as much money as possible isn't my #1 goal.
How much are you making and how much would get you to leave?
I have averaged greater than 10% every year.
1st year - 125K
2nd year - (promo) 144K
3rd year - 160k
4th year - 176k

Chasing the external raises will allow you to leave corporate much quicker - that should be the end goal.
Leave corporate??
