Changing your hairstyle is a new/different look. Do you not like being noticed at work? Are the comments compliments?
My friends compliment my hair when I change hairstyles and my coworkers do too. I just view it as being nice and cordial. Asking if you had fun over the weekend is a collegial thing.
This is very normal for anyone. You change your hair style, length, color. You shave your beard/mustache off or start growing it, you add highlights or wear green eyeshadow or a red lip or change your nose stud to a ring. You’re wearing a new fun jacket or a heel or change up your style a little. You will get comments from people who know you. Coworkers, friends, family, the barista at your local coffee shop. It is a very normal human interaction. Social media and constantly being online is isolating us and is really changing normal human interaction for the worst. If I worked with you and you went from straight to natural curls I’m probably gonna say “I love the curls”. C’mon now.
Yes, white men feel more comfortable around me if I wear straight weave. Like you said its subtle, but I notice it.
Yes, 100%. Every time I switch from a silk press to braids or curls, it’s like my coworkers think I got a whole makeover.
I welcome the comments. My coworkers know my hair is an ongoing showcase....you never know what's next. ;) The real awe is when I wear my natural hair. I've never noticed anything negative.
Usually the question is asked by someone who has had the same style for a year. They are probably fascinated by how you can rock different styles
