Just got an autism diagnosis for my 2 year old. I already have him enrolled in speech therapy, feeding therapy, and am now exploring ABA services.

Any suggestions of things that worked to get your kids the help they need? And anyone have experience of getting this diagnosis and being able to mainstream their kid? Ultimately, I’d like to be able to work towards mainstream classroom environment and independence, but I know it will be a long road (and not always possible).

Our son is autistic—we have a provisional medical diagnosis. He’s 4 now. We started him in speech therapy when he was 22 months and came off the waitlist for occupational therapy when he was 26 months.

We held off on ABA because our son responded so well to the play-based therapy he was receiving and his therapists and developmental ped./ped. were of the opinion that ABA should be the option if we weren’t seeing improvement or we saw major regressions.

Our son is/will be mainstreamed. Happy to connect if you want to PM me. ☺️

Level 1?

Occupational therapy helps my kid. He’s almost 4. I still don’t know how I feel about his ABA services. We’re moving away from home sessions to more school and having an RBT help at school.

Got it- my kid is level 1, so my experience with ABA might be different from a level 2/3 child.

Focus on what you want your child to work on. For us, it was controlling his epic meltdowns, which has helped. We did a mix of at home sessions and sessions at the center, and gradually moved to sessions at school (and that’s what I’d like to focus on, and eventually drop home/center sessions). We also had to go through a couple of therapists before finding one that really clicked with him.

I know there is a lot of negative feedback on ABA, but my son really likes his therapist, who has really helped him the most with confidence at school.

Worth reading some of the opinions of autistic adults re: ABA. Many say it caused a lot of trauma for them. I know things are not as aggressive now, but base case is that you’re using a reward system to stop your child from doing what feels normal to them.

Everyone has their own perspective on this. It’s mostly a (neuro)diversity point. We chose to do other forms of therapy for our son. He is in a blended classroom (end of kindergarten) in a public school, with an IEP. He is doing well. Bullying comes into play and his life is harder, but he’s an incredible little boy and I’m very happy with the therapies we’ve had.

I’m one of the only attorneys in my Texas firm that had electricity, internet, and water this week. I was warm and comfortable but still could not get any work done because things going on in the outside world are distracting. When I try to work, I feel like I can barely hold a thought in my mind before I get the “wait, what am I doing again?” feeling. I just want to know, I’m not the only one that struggled this week to do any work, right?

Does anyone here live near East 83rd St and 3rd Ave? I'm interested in an apartment there but I noticed a huge construction site at the corner there. The agent said the construction there is now mostly just facade work on the top so it's not noisy any more, but I don't 100% buy that. If anyone lives in that area, can you please tell me if you can still hear any construction noise from inside your apartment when you close your windows at all? Thanks!

Hi Guys,

I am a ReactJS developer (frontend) with 3.8 years of experience. I currently switched my company but they don't have an opening for ReactJS and kept me on a bench for 3 months and they are telling me now to learn AEM technology and work on the AEM project for now.
They hired me for a package of 16 LPA.
So my questions are is it a good technology to learn? Should I say yes and have a career in it?
Will I get the same package like ReactJS or less? What is future if compared with React?
