I’ve been there. What helped me was gently pushing for specifics in writing and asking, “What would success look like to you next time?” It’s not always easy, but sometimes it forces clarity and helps turn fluff into action.
I like to ask for an example of what that would look like. Is the feedback on a specific task or project or is it generic? Some managers just like to give feedback to feel like they’re doing something. I like to ask for specific feedback if I sense this is the case.
“Can you give me an example of where I could have thought bigger and what you’d like to see next time? I want to make sure we are aligned out the expected outcome.”
If they can’t think of anything it’s bogus. 😂
Always feedback is vague
Had a manager give me feedback & when I asked for an example of when I could have done what he was suggesting but didn’t, he couldn’t come up with one. Like how is that helpful?? Sounded like he just wanted to give feedback for the sake of giving it
Try following up by asking questions and clarifying the feedback
