There should be psychological safety in a workplace

Your boss is a bully !! Simple as that. Idk where you are on your tolerance scale. Meaning when I was younger and was raising my kids I would be a quiet good worker and wimper in the bathroom or in my driveway but never speak up because the fear of losing the means to feed my kids was outweighed my need to not be humiliated at work. Now I’m older my kids are grown up and I’m be derned if I will let that stuff slide (presuming I didn’t deserve a butt chewing) I will use my chain of command and I will never ever disrespect anyone but I will be certain my dislike for being treated poorly is loud and clear for me and for others too! Tolerating this behavior is why they get away with it. Sorry you’re going through it but if you can and have the strength please say something
It is hard because I am not in a position to lose the job, single family income with 4 kids. I’m lucky that I am rarely the target but it is so uncomfortable to sit in a room and watch this happen. When it does happen to me I just try to not take it personal and that it’s just their personality. Plus the company culture just seems to allow this behavior
When they yell
Completely unacceptable behavior. To the extent humanly possible, good leaders handle performance discussions 1:1 and not in a group setting.
Try your company’s anonymous reporting hotline, provide the manager’s name and specific examples (with quotes from meetings including the names of those to whom the comments were directed), and recommend that they interview multiple people on the team to explore the concerns.
You are absolutely right on. I'm guessing OP may work at a business where this manager can and has gotten away with the behavior and there may not be another place to turn as he or she may have influence or is part of the operations team and so the cycle perpetuates.
Has anyone talked to her about it? There’s a line. A good rule of thumb is it’s only funny if everyone is laughing.
Maybe this manager is under pressure and is not able to soak it in and hence passing it on to her subs
That’s an immaturity issue. Maybe they will grow past it but it will be painful until then. Look for an exit ramp
I know someone who would yell “I’m not yelling” when you pointed it out. Some people are just that dense and unaware. And come up with an excuse for themselves bc they either dont know how to deal with their stress or don’t have good communication skills or both. Or are just a dick and find no fault in it.
As soon as she raises her voice.

That’s the worst! Yelling is never necessary. People just need to approach these situation in a calm and helpful manner and things will get done so much better!

I’ve had a manager like that, she didn’t yell at people but she would call people out in meetings if they’d done something wrong… definitely made me much more stressed
