Capsule wardrobe. Few things, well made. Look classic and put together and let go of cute/trendy.
This. I got all the basics from Everlane and then have just a couple of statement pieces mostly for client meetings.
I’ve had great luck with Trunk Club. Be VERY clear with them on budget (keeping in mind their inventory is from Nordstrom), because they do tend to try to push your price point a bit. But I’ve gotten some awesome pieces from them that I probably wouldn’t have picked myself and have lasted me for years. Even a few new pieces (a jacket, a great pair of jeans, a midi skirt) can jazz up and add versatility to what you already own.
I second trunk club. I LOVE it. I’ve gotten three boxes 1 for work, 1 for a vacation and the recent one weekend basics. They will work with your budget and I usually love the pieces they add in surprisingly. I just got an Alex Mill jumpsuit I’m so pumped to wear this weekend.
Wearing bras from before I was pregnant and my kid is almost two. Even when I look at clothes online I don’t feel super inspired because I feel like looking really cute feels foreign at this point. I don’t know if there’s an answer to this just wanted to vent. I feel kinda blah and frumpy a lot. I guess I could try hitting up some second hand places but then it’s like I don’t even have time for that and taking a baby there sounds awful. Man. I used to dress so cute.
I just started rent the runway unlimited and am loving it.
Same, OP, plus WFH for five years. It’s dire. I still have some good pieces and will occasionally update a new work item or two — so I do ok during client stuff - it’s the daily sitch that’s killing me softly. I just cannot bear to spend money on decent looking leisure clothes when I literally don’t see other humans during the day, and as a result I look atrocious.
I got rid of everything I own that isn’t black, white, gray or emerald green. It takes a ton of stress out of getting dressed in the morning.
POSHMARK FOR THE WIN. I have gotten Common Projects, Rag & Bone, Dries, Alexander Wang, Armani, Lululemon, Mother Denim, Rails, Equipment, Madewell, Commesdegarcons, Bottega. I do not have a lot of money but I have a lot of patience and I make insane offers that people seem to take. I’m talking $100 for Acne booties, $50 for silk Equipment shirts, $40 for Spanx Faux Leather leggings. The deals are real.
Start from the inside out. Update your bra. That honestly makes a difference to your general comfort and how you feel wearing any clothes. Then choose a few accessories (scarf, jewelry) that will pull attention and dress up the basic clothes.
Good job paying down debt!!! You won’t regret it!
