Need a pulse check on compensation as I am at the cross roads again. 16 years of experience in financial services, 5 years big 4, 5 years consulting and the last 6 in the banking industry. Currently I am an internal audit vp/senior manager. No cpa, hcol - base 180k and bonus 40k, total comp 220k. Yoy raises are 2%. Job is hybrid and fairly flexible. Been seeing more roles that require more time in the office but total comp will move to 260k. Time to leave? How am I doing on comp?

Seems like a lot of financial services is moving back towards 3x-5x in office. From what I’ve seen its an anomaly that my role is only 2x. I think I am behind on total comp, 6 years of loyalty is not paying off. I liked that this role was very stable and 9-5 but that has changed with new management and culture shifts. Base will move from 180 to 210/220, bonus will stay about the same. Another conversation becomes how do i transition out of internal audit and have a pay increase as well.

Anecdotally, a friend of mine has a similar role at Fortune 50. Three days at the office, medium to low flexibility. Base comp is $117k, MCOL.

Your experience is much stronger, though.

I have 10 years experience and left for a job that also gave me a $40K pay bump but with more flexibility. It definitely is a noticeable change from pay perspective ($260k being the new base) and worth trying out. The job market is opening up again from what I see and I feel like you don’t have to sacrifice on flexibility. But why are you doing internal audit after all that…it feels like stuff you did before was more interesting/pays more 😆 personal opinion
