Have you ever made a career move that you didn’t really want to make bc it wasn’t the right time but you knew it would advance your career and help you financially?

I have a great opportunity to really advance professionally and financially, but if I’m being honest, I don’t want it right now. What I’m doing works for my life right now and I enjoy where I’m at. But I also feel like I’d be nuts to pass up such a great opportunity.

Would anyone recommend or share a side hustle that would complement a banker’s 8-5 M-F schedule? As of now, I do an hour DoorDash before work and after work I do DoorDash and Instacart for a couple hours. I do this as well on the weekends targeting about $200-300 a week since I am in a really small market. How early in advance do you start preparing for a deposition that you are conducting? One month? One week? The night before?

Advice: my firm incentivized associates to get licensed in fed courts - 4 fed courts for a 5k raise. They also covered the admission fee. I just accepted an offer with another firm and will be putting in my 2 weeks notice tomorrow. Is it wrong to submit an expense report for the charges I incurred related to the fed court admission fees? I didn’t plan on moving to another firm; the new firm sought me out and made me an offer - the process happened so fast. I want to be professional about this.

Who here has jumped firms a lot? How many firms and what year are you? I'm worried about long term my resume looking like I'm a mega flight risk. I have solid reasons for each jump but just tired of jumping and worried. It's hard to find that long term firm.

Is sticking up for yourself even worth it? My boss is always on my ass as if I’m constantly missing, or about to miss, deadlines. I’ve never missed one. I’ve received the same damn lecture/email about monitoring all case deadlines a hundred times. I always just professionally explain that we’re not about to miss any and discuss the progress. I am an associate at an AM200 firm and was (IMO) very clear prior to accepting this role that I value work-life balance and wanted to try to keep work at night on the weekends to a minimal, but since February, it seems like it’s always something that requires my time as needed disregarding “business hours” or my personal schedule. Thoughts on whether to bring this up or continue to be a team player until I burn out and pay off my student loans?

For those of us whose firms start their FY on 12/1, how did you do on your hours this past year?

Everyone I needed final approvals from to get these expert retention agreements signed off has decided to ignore me on literally the day our disclosures are due.

How am I expected to bill 1900 hours when I only have 8 cases and when I ask for work no one responds. I even asked the partner in person for work and he said he was slow and didn’t have anything for me.This month I’ve only billed 80 hrs. Its making me anxious because I don’t want to get fired for low hours but also I’m a first year so will they have some mercy on me? Lol
