What is the value in professional certifications? ACCA, CFA, CIPD, etc.

A lot, depending on your industry.

The raw knowledge gained is probably of marginal use - and everyone can learn it themselves if they wanted to.

The value is in setting a first impression. By saying ‘Qualified accountant’ or ‘CFA’ to certain people, you will immediately have set a bar for your intelligence and work ethic (whether rightly or wrongly).

I work mainly in FS - so everyone knows what these terms mean, and just makes the intro conversation on your experience, and establishing your credibility, easier.

However this is not a catch all - works maybe 1 in 10 times, so YMMV

I’m currently in a junior accounting role working with invoicing and billing management. I don’t have a degree in finance or accounting but the more I learn about finance the more interested and excited I become. Anyone have any insight as to how to grow in my career without additional schooling? (Open to certificate suggestions). Additionally what roles can I strive for given my experience?

I am in indian IT now with 4 yoe after engineering , my only aim is to settle abroad (might sound funny for many but it's my long term dream since childhood) , From just a middle class background with avg scores throughout.... But that fire is becoming intense every year as I age... Can MBA help me in this regard? Is MBA from abroad more valid than indian MBA (some say IIM are the best globally)?Which domain can I choose (some suggested International business) ? Pls enlighten me it means a lot🙏

Hi Fishes.
I am seeking help from the generous members of the community.
I am a B.Tech grad, have been working in a public sector bank for 3+ yrs. Have experience in branch operations, retail lending.
I really wish to make the switch to corporate sector as I feel unfulfilled here as there is little room from growth and upskill.
If I were to make the switch, what roles must i look for and what are the certifications i must take to get into corporate(not commerical bank) A reply would be appreciated.

Hi all! I’m inclined on taking up the CIPM training and certification exam. I’m already a certified Data Protection Officer in the Philippines. I intend on skipping CIPP as it applies to the US and EU.

How difficult was the exam? Can you share your experience studying for the CIPM exam? Is it advisable to skip CIPP?

Many thanks in advance.

Coaching leader on factors influencing KPIs.

I had a chat with my business partner, and he’s said the team is complaining about the KPIs that are too far of a stretch.

I then suggested him to unpack that a bit more. When one is not hitting their KPIs, there could be many factors.

My initial view is that it could be true but we also have to look at CAPABILITY, TECHNOLOGY, WAYS OF WORKING etc before assuming our KPI is not set up right.

What is your approach in this scenario?
