I recommend not reacting immediately. Say thank you and take time to think about it. If you want to give feedback and thoughts, set up a separate meeting to discuss.
The additional work is a rational argument for a raise.
If the data work is simple can you make it an hourly internship? Maybe thatd be event cheaper
Ah i didnt realize you already requested lowest of the low ha
Another idea - you mentioned taking on more high level tasks. If he doesnt promote you or give a good raise, you could ask for an increase in title to reflect your new responsibilities, even if it doesnt come with more pay. This way he’ll feel bad, its a reasonable request he might give, and then if you want to leave it makes it look like you earned a true promotion and sets you higher than if you didnt.
I did this at a startup - got promoted from director to controller even though i was the only high up accounting person so it didnt change pay or reporting structure. This better represented my duties and i got instantly better respect internally and externally. Also now when i say i was previously a controller at a startup people are impressed.
That all departments were asked to make cuts and it was the only thing that our dept could offer.
It is low level data entry work (the person we would have hired was part time and still in college) so I know it won't help me grow in my career or prepare me for the next step. Also this year I'm supposed to be taking on higher level reporting tasks (which I am excited for) but having to do that plus the data entry part feels like a lot.
Merit increases are coming soon. I feel like I'm going to get fleeced. If I find out it's low would it be out of line to say I'm disappointed on account of how much extra work I've taken on?
@rsm believe me this thought has crossed my mind. Otherwise it's a good company and I like most of my job. I just don't like the feeling of being taken advantage of and the possibility of hindering future growth
