Yes. Once you have a baby you may discover that your WLB isn’t as good as you think. It’s also possible that your priorities and/or career goals might shift and the big law litigation career is no longer something you’re interested in. Waiting to buy the house until you return from leave will give you more options if you decide you want to take a new role.

absolutely. you’ve already had one big change in your life, and you should make sure you still have good WLB after baby and returning to big law litigation full-time. as AA1 pointed out too, your priorities and goals may shift now that you’re a mother and working on your career. i would definitely do one big thing at a time. start to prepare for home purchase and ownership so you are able to hit the ground running when ready, but return to work for at least a few months before committing to another big time-consuming thing.
My husband and I just bought a condo a couple months before I’m due. It was a huge mistake and I wish I could go back in time and undo it. We thought we needed the extra space and that we were ready for the financial realities of home ownership. It has been a huge stressor due to some undisclosed issues with the property and uncooperative neighbors, when we should be focusing on starting our family. Take one big change at a time.
If your baby is already here, I'd wait and enjoy the leave. We bought our home 3 months before I gave birth. It's doable.
