Age 3 is usually worse than 2 yo but it's not that bad. They are learning their boundaries. Do your best to keep your cool.
Agree 3 has been harder than 2. Same big emotions, but more capable, and knows the patterns.
Our list:
- Very picky eating, randomly reject anything for dinner and then request a cookie in 5 min. Break down when we say no
- Getting more physical (pushing, pinching) to test boundaries
- Never naps on weekends, and won't go to bed during the week until 9 or later
- Constantly distracted when trying to leave or get ready, Gets super upset when you start to leave
- Recently gets hyper focused on what she wants and can't move on until she gets it or has a meltdown. Could be a snack, going to the park, type of vehicle we take to school ...
Try to be consistent about everything and communicative. Same routines, share timelines for leaving/bed etc.
It is getting better and I can see the light at the end of the tunnel
Hang in there! It gets WAY better by four
Ohh man - 2 more years
Actually would be helpful if people can share examples of what “normal terrible two behavior is” - sometimes I wonder if this is par for course or I am doing something wrong as a parent. I can start:
- more meltdowns when he doesn’t get what he wants
- scratches to get your attention
- throws things he knows he shouldn’t
- runs away and fights basically everything - bath time, diaper, changing clothes
- constantly wants to be snacking. And if we give him something he’ll take half a bite and then demand the next thing
- acts even crazier when he is getting attention from people and “puts on a show”
- just generally extremely hyper and loud lol
Oh dear..
I agree with Deloitte1.. everyone’s list makes me feel better now I know this is the norm. Mine is Ed to bite instead of scratch. Luckily that was a 3 month phase and passed. We’re still struggling with feeding as he’s become super picky
Also here now. What happened to my sweet boy, suddenly a little menace!
Yea, ugh, hang in there our terrible 2s started around 1.5 and at 3 the volume has just gotten louder. Ugh, hoping for the emotions to settle soon. All the best!
