Starting a secondment in Richmond, VA next month. I’ve lived and worked in the Midwest my whole life. What do southern women wear to work? I’ll be driving to work and the office has a parking lot, but the heat and humidity are scaring me (I sweat a lot). Also, are there any unspoken “rules” about business casual in the south? The only thing HR told me is that “it’s business casual and the attorneys tend to be more formal, but no one wears suits.”

Dresses are key in heat and humidity imo. I have a zillion sheath dresses from when I was in office (I’m WFH now). And I’d stash cardigans and/or a blazer type jacket in my office bc often the ac is freezing!!!

Also, enjoy Richmond. It’s a cute town with some nice coffee shops, outdoor venues (botanical gardens, Maymont), and Cape Charles and the Outer Banks are nearby.

Thank you!

Dresses (usually sheath) and cardigans/blazers. I’m in northern Virginia and that’s all I wear, for office or court, and NoVa is probably a little more formal than the rest of the state. I also sweat a lot, and dresses are much cooler than pants. Don’t forget the anti-chafing shorts, they will also help with comfort and sweat. I wear my hair up most of the time as well, for comfort.

If you’re not a dresses person then dark dress pants (bonus if they’re stretchy!) or straight skirt with a blouse and cardigan for the cold office works. And I highly recommend Rothy’s flats!

I grew up in Texas and have lived in Virginia a while, and I don’t think there are any unspoken “rules” about business casual. Certain things might be more common in the south, like wearing makeup daily (though many also don’t), but nothing really comes to mind that would be materially different than the Midwest.

Just posting as a reminder to LEAVE that job (within a reasonable time 😂) and go where the money is!

I used to have a fitbit. Really liked a lot of its features. Like the reminder to move and the competition within the app (games and competitionvs friends). However, whenever I was at work I'd find myself taking it off for more comfortable typing and then forgetting it during the day. Now that I'm back at work I'm sitting more and need to move. I was thinking of getting an oura ring. Does anyone have one? Any thoughts as to which is better?
