I have about $20k in liquid cash and $40k in student loans. Interest on student loans is deferred until September, so should I invest and try to make some money or just pay off half the loan now?

If your student loan interest rates are above 4%, you should strongly consider putting in at least 10k and save some leftover as an emergency fund. Not much out there that’s going to make you money with the fed lowering rates like this

like

Luckily I refinanced so interest rate is 3%. Stocks though?

Collect interest (not stocks) on the cash, and then use the cash to pay debt once interest starts accruing

I was considering buying something with my SO. She also has like 30k saved up. Real estate prices seem too high still

Payoff half the loan and pay as much as you can each month to get rid of those student loans as fast as possible

Yes - debt doesn’t help one bit, get rid of it and then start building an investment portfolio or buy property or whatever you need.

Pay off at least $10k to the loan before interest a straight hit to principle that large will make a big difference in the long run

Whats the int rate on the loan? Cant believe nobody in the comments understands time value of money...

My father took a home loan, and the same home is kept as mortgage.
I'm paying arround 22k emi for the same but unable to exempt tax as the loan is on my father's name.

I googled a lot how to transfer it but neither gift deed nor sale deed would work as the property is on mortgage that's under bank's ownership (until loan is fulfilled).
Tax is also getting deducted, I'm paying hefty emis.
What can I do?
Please advise 🙂

Hi Fishes,

My wife is getting transferred to California from India and she is offered 143k.

How much she can get after tax deduction and all? How much she can save after all the expenses?

She is insisting that I travel with her and get the job in the US. I'm a software developer having 4.1 YOE. How much can I get in the US? Is it worth traveling with her?

Any information would be helpful, Thanks in advance...

I’ve been a family caregiver for four years, and now look to return to the workforce. I realize that this will be a bit difficult, especially during these economic conditions, plus other factors, such as being an older employee, etc. I updated my account with a few job sites, adding on the fact that I took time off to care for a family member. I would appreciate some advice, anything that would be helpful.

If you go for interview and you sort of know that the person interviewing you might be curious about something on your negative on your resume like why is there a gap or why were you in XX role for so long?

Do you address it pre-emptively? Or does that show insecurity and you leave the elephant in the room and wait till they ask you?

I guess this is more in the case of networking than interview like do you make your own story?
