Personally, what would matter to me is the career trajectory… which path puts me closer to my goal… which role would really challenge me and make me better… which role has a higher compensation threshold…
Those would be my main considerations…
But you’re fortunate to be in this position… where you have the luxury of telling your managers “sell me on it” versus you selling them… that’s huge…
This is where that 5-year plan comes into play. Where do you want to be? Taking on more or different responsibilities can be scary, but it often leads to some amazing things.

Yeah I definitely need to take some time, sit down and think about the next 5 years plan
Research the roles and figure out which one best aligns with your career goals. If it was me, I would be gunning for the client manager position based on title alone. Try not to worry about being unprepared to take on the responsibilities. The manager pushing you to take it wouldn't be doing so if they didn't think you could handle it.

My issue is I’ve had a lot of responsibility in the past (I was however in a very bad personal place), and it pushed me into depression. I will do anything to avoid that now, so I’m just trying to figure out it If im ready again now. I think I am

That’s a tough spot to be in, especially when both paths pull you in different directions. Totally get being nervous about the responsibility as it’s a big shift. Maybe think about which role actually fits the kind of work you enjoy day-to-day, not just the title. And it might help to talk openly with both managers about what growth looks like long-term.

Yeah I think that’s really great advice, thank you. At the end of the day you have to love your job, and the day to day stuff is what matters.
I love my job now so much, part of me doesn’t wanna change. But I know I need to take the jump.
Tbf my work is quite good that this job is always here for me to fall back on if I need

Ah, I hadn’t looked at it like that really, thank you so much!
Yeah I need to look at where I actually want to end up in the next few years, but I haven’t even really thought about it tbh!

That’s hard. Have you talked to them?
