I stepped back from a decent-paying role because the stress just wasn’t worth it. Financially, I was comfortable before, and yes, I had to scale back a bit, but it’s absolutely worth it to stop spending all my time stressed or exhausted from work. Jumped the ship from public practice to a labour analyst for a no brainer move of 44% base salary increase. It was a bigger salary and also significant work that I reconsidered the move. Eventually, the company hired more manpower to the team which means decent working hours now, and salary grew incrementally. At the end of the day, high salary now means more savings for the family's future. I would be delusional if I told baby and wife that I refused a whooping 44% salary increase opportunity for this thing called "better long term" and the public firm. Speaking as an accountant in the Vancouver area which you know the salary is not the best for accountants.
