I would just say to consider the cost of living you might find with a higher wage. I make more now since I moved, but I’m also paying a lot more for rent and other bills.
Very true. I took a significant pay cut about 2 years ago, but the cost of living is so much lower, it is well worth it.
I've read that wages are going up in what are called emerging tech hubs, which tend to be in the South or the Mountain West. You might want to do some research along those lines and look into places like Austin, Raleigh, or Salt Lake City. Of course, in places where wages trend upward the cost of living also trends upward, so there's that aspect to consider.
If you are a cook, you will probably find the best wages in resort areas. Have you thought about a cruise ship or something like that? Usually, your accomidation is included (as are meals), so that is one less thing to worry about spending money on.
I would say the west coast may be the best option for you to look for a great paying job. The only downside is that the living expenses are very high compared to the south and east coast area.
California is probably your best bet as far as states that try to keep up their salaries. It’s still nowhere enough, but it’s probably the best you’re going to find I think.
